Do you Want a Smart Website or Blog?
It has taken me a long time to figure it out.
Years of overpaying for the same hosting/template things and time consumption waisted on a less than perfect site.
Starting with Shopify, my first full site, and they are great if you want to spend twice as much.
They have every add on that you could possibly imagine, and unfortunately every add on is just a bit of money, so after you install your main template at a premium host/template establishment and need to have it do more, so you add on, and added on cost. So there I wound up paying about $85 a month to have my site looking and doing how it was imagined, I was so proud, so NOT a programer, and I did it all myself! Brilliant, but wow $85 a month with the add ons and that includes nothing but running the site of a business.
So… starting to feel that cost and pain about a year in, on to the hunt, and there shows up is BigComerce.
Lovely, can do the same stuff, more included and woo wee, only 30 bucks a month. On to set that up, it took me about a week to transfer everything into the new site (things don’t just transfer over from one host to another so easily, they want you to stay, so they don’t really give you a link to say press here and transfer all your posts and stuff). BigComerce was great, customizable, I was getting comfortable with different templates and cruising along for a few years. Then… expansion…, ok two sites? to cover all my stuff, wow that was going to get expensive, off on the hunt again.
Popped Up was Squarespace
Nice, fast beautiful templates to use, simple, low price for basic site, and I could have two for the price of one! Well, for that to work, flipping between two sites and posting here and there and back and forth became less than dreamy! No one template would do all my needs in square space, great if you want simple, fast and clean looking portfolio type site, but I wanted to do more with it and combine all my entities as a blend. Off to see what else is out there.
Here is where I am at now, at just under $4 bucks a month on Bluehost with (free) WordPress and WooCommerace.
It does everything needed and more, all my add ons have been free, and usually they are a one time tiny payment if you need something really heavy. So for the past three weeks, transferring of all my stuff yet again, smiles, (yes, I did accumulate quite a bit more to transfer) and have it finally all loaded on site. I am pleased!
In the beginning, my thoughts of deficiency in skill would be a hold back to do more of an independent hosting site, having to load all the extras and entities on my own. Hind site, thats what was happening with all the other hosting places. All load the same with a click of the button, you have a dashboard and your template, get the storage needed and you can add lots more or unlimited. My site has tones of full weight photos up, and there is no space issues on the $4 plan.
So If I were going to do it all again, knowing what I know now. Ya BlueHost is the smart way to go,
Same simplicity, you own all your information and can take it with you. Keep building and changing with your needs. Plus I really do think the SEO is better, so you actually reach more people from search engines.
Just starting…. Think of the name that is wanted for the site to be, go to Bluehost, check availability, get my domain name, and sign up for the three year under $4 bucks a month package, and build away! They also have packages that include a domain name of your choice.
I have included links below to search your domain name, and Bluehost package deal to make your life less of a hunt!!!
